About My Beating Hart and Me

Since grade 9, I’ve been all about this music—despite getting ripped on for my band choices. I always said, “f...orget the haters,” and kept going.

When I started going to shows in 2003, I realized I found my people. I’ve been in the pit, lifted for crowd-surfing, and helped people up when they fell.

Besides shows, I have been modding several subreddits deeply intertwined in the scene, including r/WarpedTour and r/WhenWeWereYoungFest as well as a few band subs. Maybe you saw the AMA with Kevin Lyman.

In the past few years I have seen people rushing to our scene who are just trying to cash in or chase fame, and it has bothered me a lot—it’s probably the same people who who bullied pop-punk and emo kids back in the day. So I thought, if they can do it, I can do it better. I know these people; they are me.

For 10ish years, I had dreamed of creating my own band. I finally made it happen in 2024 and started My Beating Hart, which is a play on my name.

My Beating Hart will always be about those of us in the pit, helping the surfers, screaming along with every lyric. We can’t all be on stage and My Beating Hart will always be about the community of those who love the music.

I'd love your feedback (via IG DM) and any suggestions for music-related nonprofits that help kids with depression or learning to play.
